'Marigold 2.0': Better than the first . . .

More clever writing and less mugging cliches in this one. There was an actual plot/subplots as it gummed its way through 121 minutes of the Raj.

Has mature comedy come to the hotel? Weeell, I won't get carried away but it's close. Plus some serious homage to Bollywood. All the characters are more fully fleshed out and Dame Maggie rules the waves being the world's numero uno curmudgeon. (How much longer will we bask in her "bad attitude"? Can she last forever?)

This time out we have Richard Gere joining in to get all the geriatric juices flowing. But, no random lusts for Richie as he has eyes only for Dev Patel's mother. Dev struggles with his fiance and a childhood rival who materializes to cause discomfort before the wedding. A good time is had by all except for the shock we get as the movie draws to credits.

I believe we have a 2.1 (to clean up 2.0) and a 3.0 left to go. If you can stand Dev for another four hours in the future.

It helps to be 60+ in order to buy a ticket if not 70+. Best thing is to see it at home so you can deal with your Depends as needed.
