'Serena': Smokey Mountains and Britons . . .

What was so compelling about this story that the Brits had to produce and star in it? The only two non-Brits were the leads: Bradley and Jennifer.

Basically Pemberton (Bradley) was a lumber man heir and working the Smokies heavily in 1929. He and his right hand man had done well and prospered. While attending a horse show/event Pemberton spotted Serena riding the course and took off in pursuit to introduce himself. Shortly thereafter they were married and much to the dismay of all the lumber company Serena came from a lumber family as well. She was smart and knew how to run things. Much friction builds.

Then, Serena figures out that one of the camp cooks has had Pemberton's child. Not good. Serena gets pregnant but loses the child. Next she goes after the girl and the boy and things get messy.

Speaking of messy. This was another great catstrophe that did not deserve to be made. Somebody figured Bradley and Jennifer have so much on screen mojo that it has to be a winner. Nupe. They had zero chemistry. The cinematography and lighting made Jennifer the most unappealing I've seen her. Nothing seem to work well as far as the leads were concerned.

As part of the irony Toby Jones played the Sheriff of their county. Imagine Toby, in 1929, being Sheriff over a jillion hillbillies and necks. Jus don seem raight.

This stinker is best left in Redbox and unselected on cable. Nothing to see, just move on.
