The Academy I haven't watched since they expanded from 5 movies up for best picture.

Further since Leaving Las Vegas in 1995 I was rather confused by their weird decision making process. Whether one liked Leaving Las Vegas was beside the point.

It was nominated for Best Actor, Actress, Screenplay and Director and would have had to have been in the running for a nomination for screenplay since it won the award at other award shows. Arguably the Cinematography was the strongest aspect of the movie.

But hey Braveheart won and Batman Forever was nominated - jeez.

Those are considered the big 5 categories - so it never made any sense to say - well it was one of the 5 best in actor and actress, writing and directing but then NOT put it up for best picture. WTF?

I just hate the stupidity of some of these awards when they don't make sense. Leaving Las Vegas was pretty artsy for Hollywood and downbeat for their tastes but still - Braveheart? Talk about butchering history. Watching that movie makes me want to go to Vegas get drrunk and die in the arms of a hooker.
