Hitchcock's "obsessed detective" movie (and his movies in general) tends to focus on elemental, rather than romantic, aspects of society or human nature. Both movies have many good things going for them, even though features a "cool" aesthetic while the other has a "warm" one.
I prefer Hitchcock's style of cinematography and sense of "romance" most of the time, but that's just me.
