A tall order

IMO searching for a good processor is a minefield and few are good musically - something I see you require. I suggest you not worry too much about the bypass problem as it is simple to construct a high quality bypass switch, even have it remotely controlled if you like.

My (limited) experience is that processors have improved dramatically in recent times so purchase of used units has to be approached with extreme caution. There are some tempting offerings around because of all components, processors seem to depreciate the most with older units only realising 10% or less of their original price. But there is a reason for this - they are not very good!

Against that, have a careful look at Meridian products. They have been class leaders in the digital field for some time now so that their older units are as good as some of the latest and greatest from other manufacturers. Lexicon have a high reputation for HT but not music althought their latest offerings (beyond your $1000) might be ok.

Apologies for the vague reply with no specific recommendation. If you feel like following up my Meridian thought do a search on

where Meridian owners lurk. A post there might lead you to some specific product to do what you want.
