Need help

I'm setting up a 2nd system in our basement I'm remodeling. Due to WAF and other issues such as listening couch against back wall, I'm going to put in rear ceiling speakers. I'm planning on placing them essentially on either side of the couch about 18" out from the wall. The room is 12'8" x 23' and system and listening position are opposite each other along the long walls about 1/3 of way from the end (short) wall.

My dealer sugested some Niles for about $600 that can be aimed. Any other sugestions, sources, reviews? Is Madisound any good? Parts Express? others?

Also would appreciate suggestions for 5.1 receiver. I'd like to buy used to get better price/value. Good two channel would be nice. I may move my best 2 channel in there and try out the bigger room but maybe not. I'm mostly a two channel guy that watches a few movies now and then but I like good sound. I have a Sony 444ES on the upstairs "family" system with Spendors which is "OK". I'd like something att least that "good" and maybe a little better downstairs but can't go too nuts on the budget. I'm thinking Dennon or Marantz or maybe even another Sony? I hear good things about B&K 305 or 307 & Marantz SR 19 or 18 but I'm not sure I want to spend that much. $400 to $800 on used market would be nice but...

I also like DIY and have built a pair of GR AV1+ speakers and a few simple headphone amps. I could do simple upgrades on a receiver such as bigger better caps, or speaker enclosure etc. if need be. I will have 2 or 3 dedicated lines for the equipment when I'm done with the remodel by the way.

This HT thing is new to me so I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks, Dennyj
