Macrovision Problems?

I just recently picked up a Sony EVO-550H Hi8 editing deck. Having been out of the "VCR" world for the past 15 or so years I never gave copy protection a thought. The player will not play tapes from my Sharp Hi8 camcorder. I can not record from my DirectTV. I have no idea what to do about the tapes from my camcorder. But will a SIMA SCC work between my DSS and the deck to remove the Macrovision signal? This deck does not have an RF input/output. Just s-video and bnc ins/outs. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob D
