Plasma monitor 1024 x 1024 resolution

I am thinking of getting one of the above, but I do not understanding why the resolution stated is 1024 x 1024 when it is a 16:9 panel? Any difference in picture quality when compared to a panel that has got the resolution fitting a 16:9 panel?
