"Jaggies" on some text

When watching sports events my overall PQ is very good including text that appears in the main source, ie: the numbers on the players' uniforms, the scoreboard, et al. However, I notice that with overlays like the stats that are superimposed in the lower (or upper as the case may be) corner of the screen the text is somewhat "jaggy." What causes this?
