I saw this Sony set today at my local home electronics store. It looked very good and in a not so large room, I think it will make an excellent home theater screen.I have the 16:9 34" Sony XBR (last year's model) and in my setup I sit about 7 to 8 feet away and I find it very enjoyable. A larger screen would be nice but maybe next time around when the price of LCD flat panels or rear projection DLP's come down another notch.
The 34" model is very heavy and bulky so I think you have the right idea going with the smaller 30" for a bedroom setup. Sitting closer to the screen will help and the 30" model is a lot more manageable than the larger 34" TV. There's no way I will ever be able to move my 34" screen w/o enlisting the help of a couple friends.
Good luck, and if you ever get a chance to try HDTV, it is the most incredible picture you will ever see. It is far sharper than any DVD.
