I think you will have good luck with the direct view which is a tried and true technology. I just replaced a 25 year old 27 inch Sony console with their 46 inch projection unit. It has a very nice pic and doesnt dominate the room, in fact it fits in the spot the console sat. A lot less money--I got mine for $1350. SAve the rest of your cash and you can get a LCD or plasma in 5 years when they get the bugs worked out.
