Re: 27 in. HDTV

I just bought the Magnavox for my son as an X-box gaming and SD cable TV. Keep in mind that I had a monetary limit to spend, which I went over by about $50, just so I could get him a HDTV, instead of an analog one.

Of the two CC stores I went to, the first had it setup playing a standard definition signal, next to the Sony KV-27FS120. It was close enough in picture quality to the analog Sony that I was impressed, considering the last cheapo HDTV I bought (and then returned) looked horrible with SD.

The second CC had it playing a HD loop signal, next to all the other 27" HDTVs, including the Sony KV-27HS420. In high def, the Magnavox looked just as good as the others. BTW, as far as I know, Phillips builds Magnavox, so the more expensive Phillips HDTV may be a step up in their product line.

Who knows about reliability, so I bought the 3-year extended warranty plan.

He won't be using the set till after Christmas. I plan on unpacking the set next week and checking it out, so I can get that rebate in the mail. I'll try to repost in this thread, as I can compare it to a Sony KV-27FV310, which was one of their better analog 27"er before the HD model came out. Also I may drag it in the Liv. Room and connect my HD cable box to it, just for giggles and kicks.

Checking out the link, it looks like they have dropped the price of the set since I bought it 2 days ago!
