Phil,

The good points are that D-VHS films look a lot better than their DVD counterparts and that (as long as the show isn't protected through encryption) one can make some great HD copies of HD shows.

D-VHS won't be quite as useful once the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD fight is settled, but it still makes a great VCR.

Can you pick up HD programming through an OTA antenna?
