Have you considered a "phantom" center channel? After a year of using a CC-3 with my four 1.6's (and five years using a CC-1 before that) I started experimenting and now use a phantom center 100% of the time. Front pans are improved, dialog is locked on the screen more tightly, and the entire sytem sounds less "mechanical". Try it, you'll like it (and also eliminate your problem).
