HD TV picture problems with switching to HD station

I just converted from Comcast cable to Verizon Fios. I'm running an HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV. When I flip to HD stations, something wierd happens to the picture.

Sometimes it's okay and sometimes either the picture is shifted 1/3 of the way right to I see the left 2/3rds of the picture and the right 1/3 of the screen is blank, or the picture is centered but the green box with the station info is shifted to the right and is jittery.

When I turn the TV off and on again, with the cable box left on an HD station, the picture comes in perfect. I can then switch from HD station to HD station with no problem.

I would guess that some of the screen coordinates are getting mucked up some how and the TV is misinterpreting some of the digital information. I heard that the HDMI standard is still evolving. I wonder if there's an incompatibility between the box and the TV.

The off/on is an easy workaround but it would be nice if there's a permanent solution.
