$100 price cut for Sony Playstation 3 in USA + Canada [NYT, reg. req'd]

It had been rumored by the gaming press, then denied by Sony, and now it looks like the $100 price cuts are real, and will be effective on the 12th of July as originally anticipated. That brings the entry level price of the PS/3 to $500, same as the price of the discontinued 20 gigabyte model.
