RE: What does Amazon's bestseller list tell us? (HD DVD, B-D, etc)

[continued]

Judging from it's long stay (in all formats!) on the bestseller list, it looks like lots of folks expect the BBC series "Planet Earth" to have lasting appeal as part of their video collection, and releasing the regular and high-def versions simultaneously looks like a smart move.

Although action/adventure movies are well-represented in high def formats, and Blu-Ray in particular, they usually don't seem to remain on the bestseller list for very long. I think this is because most folks balk at paying top dollar for a movie which may not hold up to repeated viewing.

I'm not familiar with the movie "300", but I gather it's a guy's movie, and if the Playstation 3 is a guy's game system, and it's also the #1 selling Blu-Ray player, this might explain why preorders for 300 on Blu-Ray continue to outnumber those for HD DVD, whereas the opposite has been true for Planet Earth.

I think if we had actual sales figures we'd find that Playstation 3 sales remain well behind the Nintendo Wii and DS, even the Playstation 2. But for the moment, it's ahead of Microsoft's Xbox, and that's not a bad start.
