Today you will buy a far superior 42” Plasma TV for about one third of what you paid a few years back.

I prefer Plasma but others here prefer LCD. For viewing in a brightly lit room (apparently lots of people don’t have curtains/drapes that block the light out) LCD screens are usually better because there is less ambient light reflection.

IMHO the type/size of screen people view is a very personal choice.
