Home Video Asylum

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

There are two ways of looking at that, Jack:

1) That the manufacturers are having trouble pressing the discs (unlikely), or...

2) That the demand is out-stripping the supply.

Also, if it's the latter reason, it probably has more to do with store inventories (double or triple inventories in certain cases for Std., HD & Blu-ray).

The latter isn't necessarily a bad thing, except for the delays involved. If the demand is healthy it bodes well for HD and/or Blu-ray and the release of many more titles.

>>> "The HD DVD Ocean's Trilogy is sold out and/or not in stock all over. I ended up getting the BD version which Amazon did have." <<<

Assuming similar distribution and the reputed issue of Blu-rays being more difficult and expensive to press, if HD discs are selling out then it may suggest that HD titles weren't stocked in appreciable quantities; that also suggests that video stores (on-line and brick & mortar) may have been caught unprepared by an increased interest in HD. It would be interesting to see some real-world sales figures sans either format's spin.

Cheers,
AuPh
