Home Video Asylum

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

don't know how I missed out on hearing about this, but I'm pretty geeked out

Got home late Saturday night after a concert, and turned on the TV to check college football. Noticed on the cable menu that a local channel was showing the Doomsday Machine episode (one of my favorites) so I tuned in. Holy crap! The old U.S.S. Constellation that looked like a cheap plastic model that someone used a blowtorch on to create scorch marks now was a true battle damaged ship with the metal structure clearly visible. The "planet killer" itself was larger and considerably more ominous in appearance. Fired up the computer after it was over and googled up all the restoration info.

I've been waiting out the format war, but with this set out and Costco selling the Toshiba HD-A3 for $169, I might just have to leap off the fence.

I'm all over seasons 1 and 2, but I'll pass on season 3. There isn't any amount of digital restoration/improved special effects that will make a difference with Spock's Brain or The Way to Eden :)
