Blu-ray and i-link

My RPTV (Sony Qualia) supports i-link connections. Does it make sense to look for blu-ray machines that support i-link, in favor of an HDMI connection? I believe the Pioneer Elite players include i-link connection and I was wondering if that kind of connection is better.

Also, I would prefer not to have yet another source component, so, does anyone have an opinion as to which blu-ray machines offer the best performance when playing conventional DVDs? By the way, I am NOT interested in the sonic performance of these machines.
