Last year at this time, Sony was losing approximately $241 on every $699 PS3, and approx $307 on every $499 PS3, according to iSuppli. This year, overall losses on the PS3 are expected to be double those of last year.

Doesn't look that way. It appears that the success of Halo 3 pushed the Xbox 360 into profitability, despite the reliability/service issues.

Indeed it is. Even today it typically outsells its newer sibling by 2:1.
