Both Blu-ray and HD DVD adoption are still miniscule compared to DVD...

Part of Warner's quick (and decisive IMHO) decision to pick a "winner" was to get the fence sitters off the fence to help stimulate HD media growth. Universal, Paramount et al have to look at the potential growth market for HD DVD (practically nil now) and Blu-ray and make "adjustments' accordingly. They won't back the losing format for very long.

And if they choose to try to remain stubborn, the B&M stores might make the decision for them. BB et al are probably unenthusiastic about maintaining dual inventories...
