Home Video Asylum

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

Not yet they aren't

I have stated my point several times - at this point in the development cycle, the new formats and platforms are video-focused. The soundtrack on a video disc can certainly be "audiophile-quality," but it's still part of the video. It is not a separate audio entity. Perhaps there will be a time in the near future when we see audio-only releases on BluRay/HD-DVD, but that time is not here yet.

The same thing took place with DVD-Audio. When the DVD format was first released, it was totally video-focused. At a later time, the audio side was developed.

The basic features to do this with BluRay/HD-DVD are available now, but they are not yet being used, and there are no announcements yet that this will happen. Your interest is understandable, but in my view it is premature. This is still the DVD-Audio forum, and unless we're collectively prepared to declare the format completely dead (which I'm not prepared to do), it seems to me that it should stay the DVD-Audio forum.

As I said, I stated my view on this, not once, but several times. I have tried to be perfectly clear about my reasons for my opinion. Your attempt to ascribe ulterior motives to me strikes me as both pathetic and somewhat malicious. What is your purpose for doing this?
