What's the point of Dolby Digital...

when the soundtrack is 2.0 stereo? I have gotten several DVD's lately that are marked Dolby Digital but are in 2 channel stereo. There is not even a center channel signal for dialog. I don't see the point of Dolby Digital processing, if there is no surround sound or center channel. Might as well just have unprocessed 2 channel stereo, it seems to. All the Dolby Digital seems to do is take away the ability to use Prologic to get a center channel signal. Am I missing something?
