eco mode may actually produce a better picture in a fully darkened room as blacks will be blacker. Standard mode may have advantages with significant ambient light.
eco mode produces less bulb heat. Heat is primarily what causes bulbs to wear out. The numbers regarding relative bulb life in the two modes are probably close to being right
