Re: Samsung widescreen crt and 1080i

Check the Denon's manual for whether or not it can upscale. My DVD 2910 offers upscaling but only on the HDMI output so you may not have the option at all on the 1600.

Your TV is already upscaling the standard definition (480i or 480p) to whatever the TV's native resolution is. If the Denon offers you the option to upscale to the same resolution, then definitely try it and see whether or not you prefer the TV or the Denon doing the upscaling. Use the option that looks better to you.

If the Denon upscales, but not to the native resolution of your set (eg my Denon upscales to 720p or 1080i but the TVs native resolution is 1366 x 768 which doesn't match either of those options), then if you upscale in the Denon, the TV is still going to have to do a scaling option as well which means you're using 2 separate scaling operations. In my experience, that's worse than using standard def output from the Denon and relying on the TV to do the rest in a single scaling operation.
