In the Oppo's menu system for audio, there are 3 options for HDMI audio: LPCM, Auto and OFF. Choose OFF and you can use the S/PDIF connection for digital audio to your receiver and still get HDMI video for the plasma. The user manual is available for download at Oppo's site if you want to get familiar with the player before it arrives.
The cable box should have a similar option in its setup menu.
