here's a work-around

You'll need to go through the audio setup section in the STB's menu system, as that's where a PCM setting would be. If you can't find it, there probably isn't one. The signal out of the STB will most likely be Dolby Digital and the reason your DAC can't "translate" the signal is because it's in data form (not PCM). If you can run this signal to a surround receiver, it will decode to analog and, available with some models, output a PCM signal for you to run to your 2-channel DAC (if that's what you really want to do).
