RE: I don't understand how Samsung can take this stance....

I had a Samsung LCD HDTV that failed under warranty. It took about four months for Samsung to resolve the issue by replacing what was effectively a defective set. It was replaced by Samsung with another of their products. In future, Samsung won't be on my shopping list.

Their customer service is very poor.
