Vidikron Epoch D-600 LCD Projector Question

I just picked one of these up at a thrift for 35 bucks....it works great but after only an hour, the "replace lamp" message appears...it still works so I am wondering how much time I have left and if there is a way to rebuild the lamp instead of buying a whole new assembly.

It just seems to me the bulb could be replaced but I cannot find anyone selling just the bulb....you have to buy the whole assembly and that is expensive!

Any ideas? Not willing to spend $500 on a bulb assembly!
