firmware updates

#1 You don't need an ethernet port to apply a firmware update. Players can be updated via CD or, in some cases, a USB port.

#2 Even if you do have an ethernet port, you don't have access to a firmware update until the manufacturer makes it available. And that would be the same time it's avalable to be downloaded and put on a CD or sent over a USB connection to a player that didn't have an ethernet connection.
