Why does moving coax antenna from cable connection

make so much difference in my reception on my LCD. I have my TV ( for now) on top of my audio rack to listen and watch music DVDs and sports. I do not have a cable or satellite box ( for now ) as I watch so little TV.
When physically moving my coax cable back and forth etc. behind the TV , I can make the reception change very significantly-from almost unwatchable to pretty good ( considering the source).

Is there a reason for this and how could I eliminate this problem ( once you get it right it's difficult to keep the cable exactly in place and it seems to change over time.

Thanks
