With 50" and up I'd go with a 1080p. Unless you're sitting really close to your display, bigger is better. 50" isn't that big anymroe.

BTW, I have a 34" HD CRT, which I've owned for 7+ years. It's very good, and I love the image, but it's a heavy and impractical beast, especially for a single gal. But it's small for HT.

I will replace it (as soon as I can afford to do so) with a 50" or larger plasma, 1080p. I think the Pannies are the best bang for the buck. There's no motion hang/blur with any decent plasma I've seen in the past few years. That's more of a problem with LCDs, along with the LCD lack of deep blacks and shadow detail compared to CRT and plasma.

Depending on the source, upscaled standard def DVDs can look very good indeed on a 50"-60" screen, which is actually smallish compared to the possibilities with front projection.

I will eventually be purchasing a Blu-Ray, no question. You think you won't be, but I bet you will eventually. It's the best way to see most movies, although I have plenty of DVDs that will probably never be released on BD. One thing that's surprised me is how great classic B&W movies look on BD.
