WDTV Live

For $100 it's a no-brainer. It did 1080p back when the Apple TV was limited to 720p. It'll play virtually anything from local USB storage or from the network.

The main drawback is no support for DTS-MA and TrueHD; I believe the Boxee does those, but costs double and may be buggier according to some reports. Since I don't yet have an HDMI receiver, and most of the content I watch just has the DTS core at best, that isn't a problem.

If by some chance it doesn't satisfy you, use it in the bedroom or elsewhere to stream music or watch stuff.
