RE: I'm in the same boat

Me too, with no lifejacket! Last gen. Kuro, still running better than new (seriously, it is much better than new, but then I know the guts and have the tools). Apparently 20k hours is nothing for them, and I hope that's true, I hear 40k hours is easily attainable. I agonised over whether to get a Panny as a backup when I heard they were also exiting the biz.

I just don't trust Samsung, though I'm using a nice large Sammy with this PC and it's fine for *that*, they do not have a reputation for standing behind their products, especially displays, least in Canada (they sell the same models here as in the U.S.).

LG is not exactly a brand I'm willing to spend big bucks on, not based on their track record, they are a "low-end" brand regardless of what they may charge now, and they'll have to go a long way to prove themselves...a la Hyundai/Kia...it takes time and a record of good product, not just hyped advertising.

And especially so with a "new" technology, I have used OLED for numerous years and it goes to pot pretty quickly. You know, like noticeably much worse just about after the warranty period is over, it does have a life span. But what is that life span now? They sure won't tell you. People who buy a new display every 3 years won't care, OLED easily lasts that long, but people like me who like to buy "good" stuff and keep it around for a while should be wary. Not that us plasma-lovers will have much choice...
