RE: does plugging HDMI ARC into an output device disable the TV inboard speakers?

The owners manual indicates there is an optical audio out. Why wouldn't you use that? If your audio rig cannot handle optical input, there are boxes available that can turn optical input into RCA output. Otherwise, you'd have to take the HDMI output from the TV through an HDMI de-embedder to strip the audio signal off and then output that via RCA. Either way, you're going to need another box, albeit a small one.

Not necessarily suggesting you buy this one, but the link will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. This particular HDMI de-embedder would require you to also get a stereo mini-jack to RCA l/r adapter cable.
