Named METROPOLIS, a science fiction animation. If my memory are good, this is the film that beats Titanic in the japanese box-office, and for good reason. The picture is very beautiful and the writing very good, you can't predict what's going to happen next, it will only surpise you.I consider Metropolis to be one of the best animation ever, and the reference for now. This is not a Walt Disney films, but japanimation at his best.
"Metroplis is the new milestone in anime. It has beauty, power, mystery, and above all... heart. Images from this film will stay with you forever."
Follow Ups:
Very good but hardly the reference for Japanese animation !I found the juxtaposition of the CGI and big headed, bug eyed "human" characters off-putting.
Couple that with the simplistic and naive storyline and we have a good animated feature but not in the same class as Princess Mononoke or that classic , Akira.
Mind you, the Metropolis double DVD set is quite good but a bit flat looking, with a superb DTS soundtrack.
Well worth getting.
The computer animation is quite lovely in "Metropolis", but the routine story left me flat (a plot hybrid of "Akira" and "Ghost In The Shell"). Ditto for "Blood: The Last Vampire", another Cameron anime fave.I like "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" better than either of the others, because the animation is original and well-crafted, and the plot moves well, at least until the obscure ending.

Just want to add something, Metropolis is from the creator of Astro Boy, in french: "Astro, le petit robot".And did you see Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Demon City? These are my others favorites japanimation.
Jin-Roh and Akira are good too. Blood the Vampire, not bad at all, but it could be better if only the vampire look "badder", he's too childish.
... but I suspect that it'll be somewhat different from the animated version (grin)! [see attached URL, and here's another - http://www.kino.com/metropolis/]Since this is out of town, we'll probably make a weekend of it and catch the Sat. night feature as well! :o)
