  Look up "The Last American Hero" - the story of stock car driver Junior Johnson played by Jeff Bridges - 1973.

  You may be thinking of "White Lightning" or "Gator" with Burt Reynolds, both had awesome car sounds & cars and had to do with moonshining in the woods. One of the cars was dark green. Not sure about a head on the hood though. Hope this helps.
