For fun, can you think of some new actors who are the "equivalent" of old actors? For example, Tom Hanks and Jimmy Stewart. Both can nail that everyday man who can rise above his ordinariness. I could see Hanks stepping into Stewart's shoes in one of Stewart's movies, and I could see Stewart stepping into Hank's shoes in one of Hank's movies.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" and a young Rooney in "Gilbert Grape." I cannot, however, see Leo in "Babes In Arms" or any of the other musicals which the dynamic Mr. Rooney made. Maybe it's because there is NO SUBSTITUTE for Judy Garland.

Stallone and Victor Mature, Stallone even tried the comedy route like Mature did in later efforts.

Spencer Tracy and Kevin Spacey. Can you picture Spencer hollering 'Go to lunch! Will you please go to lunch!"Vince Vaughn and Dean Martin. Dino would have been excellent in Swingers.
"She's business class anyhow".
"Business class?"
"Butt's too big, can't fly coach."
Vince would made a fine drunk deputy in 'Rio Bravo' as well.
