I just saw this film this afternoon and feel that it does continue the trend of even numbered Star Trek films being good and odd numbered ones tending to suck. The reviewer in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel here gave it 2 1/2 stars out of 4 and offered a review that was quite perceptive. My own perspective is that it is in the better half of Star Trek films and is not nearly as overdone and forced as previous TNG films have been. I think Patrick Stewart certainly earned his $9.5 million, turning in a very fine performance. I think some of the sequences strained believeability in a comic book like fashion but recognize that this appears to be an ongoing trend in modern movies. While not nearly as good as Star Trek II, it represents a welcome change from the last horrid effort IMO, the only Star Trek film I do not own on either LD or DVD. I look forward to acquiring this new film on DVD whenever that might be and feel it is the type of film that will continue to improve upon subsequent viewings.
Follow Ups:
It did drag a bit in spots, but the climatic space battle is the best in the series, IMO. Khan still takes the cup as the best Trek film, IMO (with honorable mentions to The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact).

I'm kind of ambivalent about it. I thought it got kind of boring in the middle and then we had the battle sequence, which was neat to a degree. Not a terrible film, but nothing for me to rave about, is all. A classic example of a trailer making the film look better than it actually is.While I'm still thinking about the film today, I think I enjoyed Harry Potter II and James Bond more.
Take care, Chris
Yes, I felt that the film also tended to drag in parts but thought it could have been a lot worse--as the Star Trek movie series has unfortunately demonstrated in the past, and on more than one occasion.
I am not a Star Trek fan but found the movie entertaining. I guess that's the whole point--for Trekkies. Although, I thought some of the FX was not up to the caliber it should have been--but again, this is a signature of the whole series. Is this the final one? The closing looked like they gave themselves an "out", but still a chance to reunite?
How much did the others pick up for their efforts $$$?
The only other salary I'm aware of is Brent Spiner at $5 million. I would have to say he earned his money also, particularly when you consider that he also contributed to the screenplay. As far as to whether it's the last TNG film, if it's very successful financially, they may consider making another one. Otherwise, I don't think so.
