  I got mine last week for $7.99. Good price and a great transfer. The voices are a little low compared to the music but I am being picky. I love the movie. I think this is one that is begging for a remake. Our stupid politics and racisms are all the same as 50 years ago. I note the scene at the end where Klatu is shot and everyone is running over to him. The mom talks to him and walks away unnoticed. She is a woman so she does not count. Har.

      The Day the Earth Stood Still came out in 1950 and would be standard Academy format. Note: Although there may be more, the only earlier example of a widescreen film I can think of would be Abel Gance's silent French masterpiece Napoleon, from '27, which employed an experimental three camera/projector process for selected shots that was similar to Cinerama, but the film wasn't entirely shot WS.
