I don't know if you know that Bogie's "Sahara" is a lame remake of a rather good Soviet film "Trinadtsat'" (Thirteen) by the great Mikhail Romm, made in 1937.That fact is usually not advetised.
If you ever manage to get your hands on the original, it is very well worth it.

Thanks, I did NOT know that. I will keep an eye out for the one you mention. I first saw "Sahara" at a drive in in the forties as a kid and have never forgotten it. Why it's never been on LD or DVD is a mystery. "A little bit 'a bread, a little bit 'a cheese, a little bit 'a wine".

COOL! I'm going to get it. Thank you so much. I note that the customers give the film 4 1/2 stars out of five. I guess they don't think it's "lame".Thanks again, Rico

***I note that the customers give the film 4 1/2 stars out of five. I guess they don't think it's "lame".Well, Bogie's acting is still absolutely fine there, so it was natural for people to like the film. But I am sure they also reacted to the patriotic plot... I suspect if they knew that was a knock-off, and using the SOVIET film as a model, at that, things might have been different.
Between the two films, the original was far more dramatic, as the originals often tend to be, and if you get the chance to see them side-by-side I think you will agree Romm's film (as the whole) is far superior.
But I suspect your chances of finding the original are probably pretty much non-existent.
