I finally watched "Road to Perdition" (on HBO) last night. Once again I was let down big time. It had a big budget and big stars but was way way too predictable and way too much shooting and killing. Road to Perdictable? I say yes, really. I haven't been this let down since I sat through "About Schmidt".I suggest anyone who wants to see a great great movie should go get the original version (not the later Director's cut) of the Coen Brother's first movie: "Blood Simple". What a stunner and it was made mostly with unknowns and for a budget of under $one million. Why oh why can't we see films like that anymore?

Follow Ups:
I thought "Road" was very depressing, and had no overiding value. Versus a film like "schindlers list", which while somewhat depressing had much value.

I for one fail to understand how anyone could be "let down" by About Shmidt, one of the great films (and performances) in recent years. And what's wrong with the (shorter) director's cut of Blood Simple?

I enjoyed it as well. Very much.

About Schmidt was terrible. As a person facing the big 60, I can tell you that no one walks in one day and faces retirement as if he had never given it a freaking thought. All the movie did was give Nicholson a chance to make faces, and bloated faces at that. Awful. As for the original Blood Simple, it had much much better background music ("I thought love was only true in fairy tales....etc I'm a Believer"). And a few other good lines were just left out: "Friday night is yankee night..." I just thought the original had more punch. Maybe it spoiled me.

Nobody seems to get "About Schmidt". The film is what Jack's life would be without the advent of Hollywood. That is the ironic beauty of the film.

if you like the Coen Bros Blood Simple or Millers Crossing then Fargo wont disappoint you
Road to Perdition isnt in the same league as any of these 3 Coen Bros films and is a disappointment
Thanks Joel and Ethan for showing us it takes more than just $ to make a good film

without going all-the-way evil. I think that's why he wanted the project.Blood Simple is one of my favorites. When I saw it, so very long ago, I was knocked out by all the ironies. Simple and Miller's Crossing just don't get enough credit.

***Why oh why can't we see films like that anymore?I dunno... because you don't want to? There are many great movies made every year.
Agree with you - the Perdition was lame.
