Half part of " Zorba le Grec " he was a fidele actor working all the years for movie & Theater & tv.
Can remember him vividly in " Gosford Park "
I will re- look at " The Entertainer " his first film role with Sir Laurence Olivier, in his hommage.

Follow Ups:
I remember all the furor we caused at our film society by running the film---campus conservatives (there weren't many at Minnesota) were upset at the wrestling match between actors Alan and Oliver Reed.
I haven't seen the movie in decades: I wonder if it aged well?
BTW, is Glenda Jackson the ugliest actress ever to ascend to leading status?

Just bought the DVD. I'll probably watch it after New Year's.
Of course it was made in the last part of the 1960's "Let's Make a Really GREAT film" era. An era that gave us a some really good films and a lot of tedious, pretentious (and sophomoric) merde. So, I will view it with some excitement mixed with some trepidation.I only hope it holds up. I rather liked it at the time. I'll post my reactions later (with dutiful genuflections to the true denizens of this forum).

The ugliest lead actress? I think both Juliette Lewis and Julia ROberts beat her handsomely (Huh!) to that title.Granted, I wasn't too conservative when the movie came out, but neight myself nor my wife were offended by the nudity - there was that definite Olympic feel to it - and I guess that was the whole idea.
I haven't seen it again either.
He was a good actor... RIP.
