Yes, plenty of it, as is made so obvious by the Spanish director Manuel Gómez Pereira.A long jorney into... nowhere, it turns out. Pointless and frankly - boring, inspite of its attempts at keeping you excited with prolonged sexual innuendo.
Is there also a film worth seeing? Hardly.
So pass on... there are many better films waiting for you.
Bernardo... what is the good Spanish word for kaka?
Fortunately, my wife slept through most of it, so perhaps no dog house for me?

How much better could she make me aware of the differences between us? Me - scraping the bottom of the gutter with the trashy kinky sex movie. She - sending her spirit soaring high, flying around the world with the beautiful birds - free and poetic?Women... they know how to get even.

I must say that Doris ( and some times myself ) like to look at animals films. I saw two days ago one about aunts, incredible it was!
It makes one feels humble.
There is everywhere the signs of the creator.

Yes, I know it was a typo..., but I simply couldn´t resist the temptation! ;`))Best regards
Well, we all know that temptations are here for not being resisted.
My aunts told me.
Often, before going to bed, we turn on one of the several High Definition channels, just to see what's there in beautiful images, and often there are animals, underwater world, that sort of things.I recall seeing one film about the spiders - I think it was called the Amazing World of Spiders, or something like that, and it was to die for.

...you should know that the Japanese word for kaka is "un-ko", pronounced with long vowels. Hopefully, that won't apply to my recent Kurosawa recs., but it sure applies to "Wasabi"--a French/Japanese action 'comedy' starring Jean Reno.Speaking of Kurosawa, have you seen "Sanshiro Sugata"? Also known as "Judo Saga", it was required viewing for a young Judoka like me. It is similar in theme to the "Samurai Trilogy", with a physically strong but spiritually weak progatonist refining his life and soul through a martial art. However, it was made in WWII Japan and it does have hints of jingoism and military propaganda. But it isn't the total propaganda piece of un-ko that is its sequel, "Sanshiro Sugata, Part II", a film Kurosawa was forced to make by the government and probably his worst work.

Unko? Is "Sanshiro Sugata Part I" in that category. I am very familiar with the "Trilogy" and wonder how the story translates in this saga. Is it worth a look?

Sanshiro Sugata has been made several times, but the one I liked best is the 1943 B&W version by Kurosawa. It is a good film, but not of the grand scale of Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy. I also saw a 1960 version of Sanshiro Sugata starring pop singer Yuzo Kayama which was okay and in color, but more graphically violent than the 1943.

I just browsed the foreign film section at my local Borders (books/music/film) and did not see any version of Sanshiro Sugata. The judo angle provided the original interest to me. It seems somewhat unique as a support vehicle. I will investigate further. The other films you and Victor have been discussing were available. Thank you both for introducing them to me. Soon, I will have new additions to my limited library.

I don't know how to thank you enough, Steve! :-))) My vocabulary is growing. It's been quite a while since I needed that word (the majority of the Japanese films I had access to were way above that level, with very few exceptions... well forgotten by now), and I doubt I will need it soon.BTW - I stopped counting the times when I was reminded that my last name sounded dangerously close to... you know... Oh, the innocent funnies of diverse cultures!
I don't recall the Sugata. My study of Kurosawa goes back many years, and some of it is already forgotten. But I recall the only film of his that I couldn't crack - that was Ikiru. In a way of excuse, that was the second part of a LONG double-feature, and it tailed all the way into like 1am, I believe, so obviously the experience was tainted. What is YOUR take on it? Should I try it again?

I think you ought to give Ikiru another shot. It is my favorite Kurosawa film. You were ridiculed for your last name?!? My last name is Eshita. To get people to spell it right, you take an "E" and an "a" and stick "shit" in the middle! I give the Meiji Restoration's tax system credit for that name. They renamed families based on the area where they lived and my father's ancestors lived on an estuary of a river delta (= "eshita" in Japanese). I have no way to trace my real family's name before that time.

That is strange, as I didn't see any gay sex there... just the rather boring hetero kind.Victoria is more than readily showing her age, and she looked outright unattractive there, and Javier Bardem wasn't really bad, but teh material he had to work with was pitiful.
