This 1927 film about aerial combat over france in WW I won the first Academy Award for best picture. The laserdisc has a great swelling
organ score (this is a silent film). The story holds up pretty well but you have to allow for the fact that the hairstyles are from 1927, not 1917. The aerial photography is top notch.

Follow Ups:
If you like Wings you'll love Dawn Patrol with Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and the incomparible David Niven... it's the story of two experienced WWI flying aces who take up new pilots only to see them shot down and killed on their first missions... it's a remarkable film (yeah and from HOLLYWOOD as well) and one of the best anti-war pictures you'll ever see.

I have heard of this and will keep an eye out for it. Thanks, Rico

This film is more a curiosity than a good one, in fact it was quite boring. Of course seeing young Niven in one of his first role and the rest of the gang make it quite enjoyable, but only fot that!

The only thing that was "boring" about Dawn Patrol was the fact that you knew right from the start that Germany was going to get its ass kicked again!!P.S. -- I'm half German, so don't get mad at me for saying that.

Why should I ?
I am French..And if I were German I would not care either. What is true is true.

Both films are excellent, but very different; BTW, I'd love to see Wings with an orchestra score rather than an organ score, but that's just my personal preference.
The films were "excellent"? Not "caca-cacarella"? Oh sorry, I thought this post was from "Le Poseur" and not the exteemed AuPh, film-lover extraordinare.BTW, here's an idea: Why not do a remake of the Steve Martin comedy "The Man with Two Brains" starring AuPh and Victor... the two minds share the same body; each tries to beat the other bloody when they disagree over movies.
Or, if AuPh is unavailable, they could make the movie with just Victor and call it "The Man with No Brain."

It would also be cunningly bi-lingual. However, I do like the title you've propsed: "Cacarella" ...all you'ld need for completely international flavor is for the film to be produced by Dino De Laurintis and Bingo, there you have it! :o)Speaking of two heads, which is it: Mo Yama or Yo Mama, or are you just "sydelxic" ...? ;^)

... without the idea of a "bondage aspect" thrown in for good measure; now THAT nauseating mental image will probably stick with me the whole day! ;^)
That let ´us see profundly in your sexual behavior...Hum.....

The "revolt" and "slaves" part came through loud and clear! ;^)
You are ( with Jojo ) the sclaves..We ( Victor and me ) the masters...

...at baiting and master-debaters, but what that has to do with Euro dominence and/or submission on this Film Board will have to be resolved solely between you; I want no part of it. Note: I'll gladly provide you two with multiple links when requested, so that you can continue to pleasure yourselves by attaching them to your posts, but you'll have to provide your own whips. ;^)
We always have ours whips attached to us.

Les langues aiment l´épée ou la langue aimant l´épée which in both case don´t make sense....
Only in a surreal one...If you would want to cut out AudioPh.´s tongue...Which again, DO makes sense....

You are right, this is quite surreal... but let him keep his tongue - we wouldn't want to miss his ode to the next installment of LOTR.

Until those Star Trek universal translaters can make your's & Patrick's warped perspectives more tasteful and communicative, I guess we'll have to rely on Jerry Lewis for some sense of how the foreign mind assimilates humour! ;^)
Don't waste your time seeing "Cacarella", it's a real piece of $%^&!!!
"Sunrise" obviously the better picture and one of my long time favorites. Thanks for pointing that out. I must watch S/R again soon.
