  It was a masterful film - and while Halle gets the glory I think it's Billy Bob who is the gel that makes the film. Ebert who is often right was really right on this one. It holds up on subsequent viewings as well with an ending that is not wrapped up in a neat bow. IMO it was easily the best film of the year...so naturally it didn't get nominated for best picture.
