Hi
saw Trees Lounge at some friends tonite. If you ever get the chance to see it; go sort your socks. It's a depressing story. The movie begins and ends with the same scene. In the beginning you are looking at an ancient guy in a bar. This guy just sits in that exact spot, day in and day out, just drinking. No life whatsoever. In the last scene the main character, having turned his life into shit, is sitting in that seat. The implication is that he is now the drunk with no life, just sitting there, day in, and day out.

Follow Ups:
I also thought this film was slow and directionless. Kinda disappointing as I usually like Steve Buscemi (?) as an actor. Did he write and/or direct Tree's Lounge?
That ultra-slo-mo film, set to Proust's novel is simply something that will test your ability to concentrate on a candle fire for hours.118 minutes of nothing is almost too much for even the most hardened movie afficionados... I got restless after about fifty minutes, got up.. went to check my emails... came back - the movie still on, with my wife taking a nap... I went to get a tea, let the dog out... it was still creeping along at its snail's pace, with NOTHING, I mean, NOTHING happening besides a boring and tedious nagging by the main character.
The the car swerled and almost left the road - I felt the beam of hope finally broke the darkness of boredom, but alas, the road was empty - no your usual truck in the opposite lane, so the nagger went back to nagging, and the victim went back to being victim...
Until the end.

.
But strictly speaking LOTR does not even belong in the category of what we call "films" - some call it entertainment, and I think that is more appropriate.La Captive is bad and boring FILM... that's the difference.

And only entertaining for some, may I add...

This movie is a total boring mess - so naturally the artsy fartsy folks will love it.
