This truly preposterous film is one of those that is very enjoyable once you acept the ridiculous premise. Three Mars bound astronauts are pulled out of the ship during the last minute countdown and secretly flown to an abandodned base and blackmailed to fake the Mars trip, landing, and return for the press and TV audience. Hal Holbrook plays the NASA Director who concocts the stunt. The men do this because they fear (with good reason) for the welfare of their families. One of the astronauts is O.J. Simpson, and he is given about four words to say during the entire film. Elliott Gould plays an investigative reporter on to something. Karen Black flits in and out as his girlfriend, The action scenes are very well done and the sound is terrific, given the film's vintage.

where a couple of more popcorn sellers released around then that I enjoyed.Watched Capricorn One in original theatrical release and it was fun thrill ride.Telly was perfect timing one man calvary riding to the rescue.Liked that ending with the stillframe.

This is a real old one! And a bad one. I though back then...
It IS bad but as I said enjoyable. I forgot to mention thatTelly Savalas plays a crop duster pilot and appears in a great biplane versus two helicopters chase scene toward the end.
